About Charlton
In 1735, Charlton was first settled and became a separate district in 1755. The town was named after Sir Francis Charlton. It was incorporated in 1775. In 2005, the town of Charlton celebrated its 250th anniversary. Though farming was the major occupation during the 1800s, a number of woolen mills were built during the twentieth century.
