Around the Town
The town common of Petersham is part of the areas Historic District, and is listed in the National Register. Forty-five buildings, mostly constructed in the early nineteenth century are included in the district. Many of Petersham’s 1200 residents live near the village center, the remainder being scattered throughout the town. Aside from its attractive rustic feel, Petersham has plenty of open spaces.
An abundance of conservation land exists which includes thousands of acres from the Quabbin Reservation, the Harvard Forest, the Audubon Society and the Trustees of Reservations. Petersham manages its own School District. The town is also part of the Montachusett Regional Vocational Technical School District in Fitchburg.
